Women who can spend 1-2 hours a week can make a huge difference. Mentors commit at a minimum to a monthly phone call, email or text with their “mentee” and an in-person visit once each month. Mentors often take the moms and children on fun outings in DC, including trips to the museums and the zoo. Even a regular coffee date or a walk can give a young mother the chance to talk through her current situation, ask questions, or pick-up good parenting tips and techniques. Just knowing she has someone on her side, who is there to listen and not judge, can do wonders for a woman’s self-esteem and initiative.
Share a special skill or interest
Our moms are interested in learning about everything from cooking healthy meals to writing effective resumes. Do you have creative ideas for how to play with children? Can you advise on strategies for nailing a job interview? Are you a fitness buff who can show our moms ways to fit exercise into their lives? One-hour workshops are great. We’d love to work with you to create the right opportunity for sharing your knowledge and enriching the lives of these young moms and their children.
